Bumps N´Bruises / Majhne nesreče

This is the one I have been trying to post. Now, with the quick help from the guys at hitrost.com, here it is – our bumps and bruises! Tukaj so naše majhne nesreče.

Every time I observe my kids playing, I can´t but remember how it was for me when I was a kid. The things we did, I sometimes wonder how we survived. Maybe this is the reason I am a little over-protective when it comes to my kids. Especially about Ambrož. Not because he is clumsier than Mojca, (quite the opposite actually) but because he is reckless and inventive beyond imagination. The things he thinks up… Some of you already saw this recording, but it still describes their character perfectly:

So, of course there are accidents, luckily we had just small ones until now. And now and then there are little accidents that are just funny. Like this one, that happened today:

I know I am a bad parent, but I just couldn´t stop laughing.

Mogoče sem zato malo preveč zaščitniški do svojih otrok. Posebej do Ambroža.

The Flock(s), Wishes and Noon Lunch

Been trying to post a funny one whole day but these FTP, MySQL and other blogging stuf is just not going my way today.

So, I will just post a picture of our Flock:

Zato bom danes objavil sliko naše jate (slika 1) in sliko ene druge jate (slika 2).

Potem še eno sliko želje (slika 3) in sliko izpolnjene želje (ja, spet smo lovili metuljčke, vendar tokrat so vsi ostali nepoškodovani) torej (slika 4).

You have already noticed that I am completely overwhelmed with Tiergarten Roehrensee, whereas even the kids are getting kind of tired of it. It is the effort of the local leaders to make kids feel nice that is just inspiring to me.

So what has gotten me so rattled up again? Well I noticed something in Tiergarten that escaped me until yesterday. I am talking about a special graffiti. Usually I don´t even notice a graffiti, that is probably why this one eluded my attention. But yesterday I had a couple minutes between different games and I looked at it. Immediately I realized that the graffiti was the extension of the playground. It softens the hard street that borders the west side of the playground, making it a part of the playground. So, when you are sitting at a bench in Tiergarten you don´t even realize there is a street there, just an amazing presentation of exciting wildlife of the World.

To me popolnoma navdihuje.

Torej, kaj me je sedaj navdihnilo? Opazil sem nekaj, kar mi je do sedaj ostalo skrito. Govorim o grafitu.

Unemployed / Nezaposlen

Today is a special day. It is the first day of my unemployment. Until now I have been on my vacation, using all the free days I had left.

Although it felt as I was jobless before this day, it is still a bit uncomfortable – this feeling of not having a job. Now I will have to update my status on LinkedIn – oh, the work! 🙂

But it is also the first day of spring. Spring means the rebirth of nature. Therefore, maybe I will find a rebirth of my career somewhere along the way. Actually I am quite busy lately – something I am going to write about as soon as the main work is done. So my new current job is taking care of the kids and doing whatever comes my way. Paula pays me handsomely.

Someone once said that being a mom is the toughest job in the world. I saw a video that describes the work of mothers in an unique way. Here is the link:

Although every time someone says the line: “Being a mother is the toughest job in the world”, I cannot help but remember one of the best stand-up performances I have seen to date. Bill Burr on the “toughest job in the world”:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwPg2oarG_c

Poglejte prvo povezavo zgoraj.

Ampak se ob stavku: “Biti mama je najtežja služba na svetu” vedno spomnim na en najboljših komičnih nastopov Bill-a Burr-a na to temo. Poglejte torej tudi drugo povezavo zgoraj.

Die Über Dummy

You have got to understand my plan of execution of the Beer Mission before I continue with it.

In the beginning I decided I am not going to google any beer but just write what I taste. The consequence of this masterplan is however a bit embarrassing. For instance, when I wrote that I should have started this mission with the oldest brewery in town (Bayreuther Brewery) I did not know I actually have. Zwickl is a brand beer from Bayreuther Brewery. And it seems I have tasted all of Bayreuther brews: helle, kellerbier, heffeweissbier und Zwickl.

So my plan was not perfect, but concentrated on the fun of it. Seems like I will do some research on the beer I drink in the future. Or, maybe not. 😛

As it was to be expected from the culture of beer drinking here in Germany there is a Springfestival – die Fruehlingsfest. And it is all about fine cuisine and beer. And the biggest biergarten belongs to Bayreuther Brauerei – Herzogkeller (see the picture in the header – it is from the internet site of the Herzogkeller – google it and it will make your mouth water). This is probably a must see. So I am gonna see it. Sooner or latter. Maybe with the next visitor that comes to see us. Who is it going to be I wonder?!

Welcome Edo, and goodbye./ Živijo Edo, adijo Edo.

He came, he saw, he went. Simple as his name, Edo.

Edo is a long-time friend of Paula. They met in the Faculty of Biology when Paula was still working on her doctorates degree. Edo was 16 then, eleven years younger than Paula, going to high school and knowing more of Biology than some (it is probably more accurate if I write »most«) students of Biology even then. Now he is studying for his master’s degree in Dresden (before that he spent a couple of months in a lab in Australia), doing something with brain functions and whatnot. I must admit that when Paula and Edo converse, I feel I would rather talk to a German. I would definitely understand more of that conversation. But other than being brilliant at what he does, which he does with passion (just like Paula – what is it with these biologists and their passion for work), Edo is a really nice stand-up guy with a brilliant future in science. And he is also our first visitor here in Germany. But he stayed with us only for a day. It was brief but very pleasant. I hope I showed him everything I have learned about the beer culture in Germany, I sure did try. 🙂

So we went to the city, we watched a couple of movies while kids were sleeping, we ate, we roller-skated after almost a decade of non-roller-skating and then we drove him to the bus station.

Smo bili v mestu, smo pogledali par filmov, ko sta otroka spala, smo veliko jedli, smo rolali po skoraj desetletju brez rolanja in potem sva ga odpeljala na avtobusno postajo.

Happy Easter! / Srečna velika noč!

It is Easter Sunday already. Time is starting to fly by since things have calmed down a bit.

So on Easter I would like to wish everyone a happy Easter and express my gratefulness for my family. Where would I be without them – well probably home in Ljubljana, sleeping :). But that would be a sleepwalker`s existence.

We had a lovely non-traditional Easter breakfast, mostly because of the company (I will tell you about our first visitor in the next post) and an even more non-traditional Easter lunch. My mother and brother sent me a couple of pictures of their Easter feast in Polževo which is a true traditional Easter breakfast. It looks like this:

Velika noč Polzevo

In Germany we had a tortilla day, so our lunch table looked like this:

Naša miza

The only thing that was missing at each table was all the family members. We just have to make due with pictures and happy thoughts.

Crazy Baking (couldn´t use Baking Mad because that is a famous TV show and an internet cooking site) / Nora peka (nisem mogel uporabiti angleške besedne zveze »Baking Mad«, ker je to zelo znana TV oddaja o slaščicah)

It is a holiday today here in Germany – Easter Friday. So Paula is home. And I am glad. Today I can relax from my many houseman`s responsibilities :). So between five minutes of sun, then rain again and some hail outside, and repeat again (weather has gone mad), we are baking like crazy inside. Just to keep the insanity of the inside and outside in balance. Well Paula and the kids are baking. I am just taking photos, enjoying the view.

Slovenska peka:

Tukaj v Nemčiji je praznik – veliki petek. Tako, da je Pauli doma. In jaz sem vesel. No, Paula in otroci pečejo. Jaz samo slikam, uživam v pogledu.

Tiergarten Röhrensee

So, yeah I have dealt with my initial excitement over the karate club. Time to focus on the family again.

Bayreuth is proving to be kind of amazing for families (if we could only get enough sun to start the discovering). They actually have a guide (Die Speilplatzführer 2014) to their 50 playgrounds in Bayreuth. 50!!! And these are not small playgrounds like we have in front of our apartment building but bigger ones. And they rank them from the best to not the best but still kind of nice. Before we got here we read somewhere that Bayreuth is “a kids friendly city”, but this is just great. A wonderful effort and results from the local government.

One of the greatest (it is in second place in the playground guide) playgrounds is quite close to our apartment. It is called Tiergarten Röhrensee. Because of the bad weather we couldn´t even cover the entire place, because it is divided into two sections. One is the playground sections the other the ZOO (Tiergarten) section. We had time enough to look at the animals. Simply put it thee kids were very reluctant too leave even when it was so cold they were shaking in their pants. 🙂

So I took some photos with my phone and we hurried back home where it is warm and cosy.

Update / Nove informacije (21.4.2014):

After the sun finaly showed itself, we went back to Tiergarten and had a great time. It is an amazing Kinderspielplatz. Here are some more pictures of this amazing playground.

Igranje po slovensko:

Se strinjam, dovolj o karateju. Sem bil pač navdušen in sem želel to zapisati.

Petdeset!!!! Lep trud in učinki lokalnih oblasti.

Ampak zaradi slabega vremena smo ga uspeli pogledati le v enem delu. In še takrat sem ju moral skoraj zvleči domov. 🙂

Zato sem naredil nekaj slik s svojim telefonom in smo pohiteli nazaj domov, kjer je prijetno toplo.
