.... in the name of LOVE, we follow her. We are her entourage...

What is this all about? Who are the Hertourage?!

Let us start at the beginning. My wonderful wife Paula is an accomplished scientist, working in Faculty of Biology in Ljubljana (that is in Slovenia for those who have same geographically limited knowledge as I do). Her efforts, good work and amazing ability to connect with different people all over the world have given her the possibility to do some scientific work outside of Slovenia, because the conditions in Slovenia are less than perfect for a woman scientist. The only chance she has of working as a scientist after her first post doc project, so to continue to do what she loves (it still bugs me how happy she is when she goes off to work every morning – I mean, who goes to work happy – happiness comes every Friday at four PM and lasts until Sunday evening when you realize you have to go to work next day), is to go abroad for a couple of years, hopping she will get enough knowledge and experience that she will get to continue her research work in Slovenia.

And this is the part of the story where we come in. WE consist of our two wonderful children Ambrož and Mojca (twins of 3 years) and me, myself and I – her wonderful husband. Because we would probably not survive on our own while Paula is doing her thing abroad (she would also probably miss us to much), we decided to accompany her on her greatest adventure yet. We are her posse, her entourage –HERTOURAGE (see what I did there – sometimes my cleverness surprises me). About a year ago Paula and I decided to risk it, so she applied to different scholarships abroad that allow her to further her knowledge and that give us the minimal financial means for surviving. As is in Paula’s` nature, she succeeded in getting a very prestigious Humboldt scholarship in Bayreuth, Germany. There were of course some negative repercussions to this decision – the risk I was talking about. Because of the relocation I couldn`t keep my job in Slovenia, so after 10 years of a brilliant career as a public employee (actually I am a lawyer that worked with taxes within Tax Administration and later Ministry of finance), I gave my first resignation. Anybody can tell that is not the best thing to do in times of economical crisis. At the time of writing this there were about 130,000 people unemployed in Slovenia (that is out of roughly 2 MIL citizens). For a man that had his life all planed out to the moment of resignation I can tell you that the paper with my resignation weighed a ton.

But this is not a blog about me so you need not worry, you will not be bored by all the doubts and indecisions floating inside my head. This blog is about her, my wife, who somehow always manages to make my life run in an unexpected direction without seeming to really make an effort at it. This will be a blog about what her entourage is doing in an unknown city, how she experiences the evolution of her career, and how I (OK some of the blog will be about me OK!) a lawyer adjusts into a life of a Housman (the male gender equivalent of a Housewife – and NO I haven´t seen the Desperate Housewives – YET) while not entirely giving up on a lawyers career. But mostly the purpose of this blog is to eternalize our adventure that will probably have a big effect on our lives (crossing my fingers and holding my breath that it will be in a good way).

So there are some rules you have to respect – all you numerous followers of this blog. There will be no complaints about my English. English is not my mothers’ tongue, so I try to do the best I can. There will be a lot of grammar mistakes, all great bloggers have them, and so I will copy that part of their abilities. Although if you see a repetitive mistake, be so kind to comment and correct me. The second thing is I will also write some of this blog in Slovenian. That is because my mother doesn´t understand English but she is undoubtedly very interested in all I have to write about.

Blog will have different sections which I still haven’t worked out yet, but one of the sections will definitely include my beer-tasting mission (Bayreuth is definitely an appropriate city for a mission like that). That part of the blog will be the most enjoyable for the writer – that is me. Other sections will be included while things progress.

We start our life altering journey on April 1. 2014. The date of the return to Slovenia is not set yet. And here we go – Hertourage is assembled and ready.

Mami, ti beri od tu dalje (Mom, you read from here on ;). Anyone who is struggling with Slovenian language, can stop and read another entry – personally I recommend the Beer Mission entries):

Mi smo najina dva lepa otroka, dvojčka Ambrož in Mojca, ki sta stara tri leta, in moja malenkost – Paulin čudoviti mož.

No vsaj tako so mi rekli v Bayreuthu).

Aprila 2014. Vrnitev v Slovenijo še ni jasno določena. Dvigamo sidra in odpiramo jadra – njeno spremstvo je pripravljeno. Gremo!
